With 13 MLB games on tap tonight, there are a lot of hot hitters going into their respective games. These players are the ones that I feel deserve some extra consideration based on their recent performance and some that you’ll likely find in a lot of lineups tonight.
Ride a player when they’re hot – a common phrase in Fantasy baseball. So…who’s hot?
*sorted from least expensive to most expensive (FD pricing)*
Marwin Gonzalez ($3000) vs Jesse Chavez @ LAA
I couldn’t leave Gonzalez off this list and he might be the hottest hitter currently if not for Ryan Zimmerman’s random breakout. At his price, he is almost unfadable at the moment with 6 home runs in as many games and has 4 straight games with one. He has three consecutive multi-hit games and is certain to be in the lineup today, even though he isn’t an everyday starter. Gonzalez has 15 of his 21 RBIs and 6 of his 9 bombs against right-handed pitching whom he will face tonight in Jesse Chavez. Lock him in.
Jose Reyes ($3100) vs Tom Koehler @ NYM
Looks like the Jose Reyes has finally returned, at least for now, to the 2016 version of himself. The man has been on a tear lately. Over his last 9 games, he has 12 hits including 3 bombs, 2 doubles and a triple. Over this span he has had 22+ FDP in 5 of those games and has even been flashing his speed with 2 stolen bases. Reyes also has good numbers against Koehler batting .500 with 2 XBHs, even in a small sample size of 10 ABs. His price is reflective of his rough start to the season and current batting average (.186), but dont let that scare you as he is and has been a phenomenal hitter throughout his career. I should note that weather is a concern in this game so make sure you keep an eye on that situation.
Carlos Correa ($3,800) vs Jesse Chavez @ LAA
Over his last 7 games, Correa has held an effective .379 batting average with 11 total hits. During this span he also has 5 doubles (he’s recorded 4 doubles over his last 5 games), 6 RBIs and 1 home run. In addition, he has had double-digit fantasy points in 7 of his last 9 games and has been seeing the ball great lately. Correa has done most of his damage this season against righties and he gets to face one tonight. He is batting .438 in the month of May and it may be smart to ride this streak out.
Matt Kemp ($4,000) vs Lance Lynn @ ATL
Kemp has been very effective to say the least as of late and has 10 hits in his last 7 games. He has also hit 3 dingers and 3 doubles to go along with his 9 RBIs. He is batting .385 in the month of May and has appeared to find a hot streak. He also gets to face righty Lance Lynn, who isn’t a bad pitcher by any means, but Kemp has torched righties as of late, and I would expect that to continue tonight in a rapidly-improving Braves offense. It also helps that he’s hitting behind one of the best hitters in the league this season in Freddie Freeman.
Ryan Zimmerman ($4100) vs Nick Pivetta @ PHI
I Simply couldn’t leave this man off this list as he has been the hottest hitter in baseball the past few weeks. All you need to do is go look at his game log and you’ll have a tough time not rostering him. I can’t say I thought I would be an advocate for rostering a player whom I, and many others, thought would experience some regression due to age at over $4K, but here we are. Like Eric Thames last week, he just has to be rostered. Zimmerman has had 10 straight games with 12+ FDP to go along with 6 homers and 5 doubles in that span. Batting .424 on the season, he comes in red hot against a pitcher making his debut and averaging just about 18 FDP per game – the choice seems simple.
