Point Guard Breakdown – 4/7/17

Today I’m going to cover the Point Guard position for Friday April 7th. We have a nice 9 game slate on tap. I will cover the Studs, Mid tier and Value plays. I’ll tell you the good and the bad based on what I like/ don’t like. Just like every other game late in the NBA season you want to look for extra reasons to play a player such as fighting for a playoff spot, injuries or tanking. Add trying to set the season record for most triple doubles to that list too. yes, I’m talking about Russell Westbrook as he goes for his 42nd triple double tomorrow against the Suns! Let’s dive into the slate.

Russell Westbrook $13,500 – The man chasing the record. He has a great matchup with the Suns back court tomorrow. While Tyler Ulis is turning into a nice pg he has no shot at slowing Westbrook down. The spread is at 8 points favoring OKC right now, but I fully expect a beat down. There is no doubt in my mind that Westy gets his record setting triple double tonight. Lock him in your lineup, it should be a big night.

Kyrie Irving $8,500 – Kyrie is listed as a stud tonight because he’s the next highest salary pg on the slate, which is a little scary because he’s $5,000 cheaper than Westbrook. He has a nice matchup with the Hawks tonight where he will get Schroder defense, he allowed 35 pts to IT4 last night so it’ll be interesting to see what Kyrie can do with him. Spread is already favors the Cavs by 10 considering Paul Millsap will be resting, so the game could get out of hand.

Mid Tier

Jrue Holiday $7,500 – Holiday has an excellent matchup tonight with the Nuggets as it looks like Jameer Nelson will be held out again due to injury. I’m usually hesitant to roster Holiday because he disappears on the court at times with both Davis and Boogie. As of late he’s really been doing his thing playing in 32 or more minutes in 8/10 games and scoring 33 fps in 7/10 of those games. At his price and matchup I believe Holiday is in a good spot to be close to value. He’s a solid cash game option.

Dennis Schroder $7,300 – Schroder has been pretty consistent this year. His price is pretty much been as stable as his play. He’splayed in 31 minutes or more in 8/10 games and gets Kyrie Irving defense tonight. The Hawks will need Schroder to have a big night if they want this game to stay close considering Paul Millsap will be sitting out. I honestly don’t see Schroder hitting value tonight, I believe this game will get ugly fast.

Tyler Ulis $6,200 – Ulis has really stepped into the starting role nicely as of late including scoring a career high 34 pts the other night against the Rockets. Ulis will get the tough task of Russell Westbrook and while it’s a hard task for any player it’ll be especially hard for Ulis considering he’s 160 lbs soaking wet. But, he’s on the list because Westy doesn’t play the best defense. A lot of times he’s sagging trying to get rebounds and is out of position. Ulis is a decent play tonight considering he plays about 38 minutes a game, but I wonder how effective he can be against Westbrook.

Ish Smith $5,600 – His price is a little high to be considering at value, but since his ceiling is pretty limited he’s still considered value. It’s funny today is the day I say his ceiling is limited because he gets an excellent up pace matchup with the Rockets. Like I just mentioned Ulis just busted up on them for 34 pts and while I don’t think Smith is capable of doing that I believe they both have something in common and that’s speed. Both Smith and Ulis are very quick and that’s something I see Smith using to his advantage tonight. He needs 28 fps to hit value and I believe he will do just that. He’s a safe cash game option.

Jamal Murray $4,300 – His price is getting a little too high for me in this spot, but considering he gets 30 minutes a night if Nelson is out you can’t argue with that. His last 2 games he’s hit 23.6 and 28.5 fps. But, in games prior to that without Nelson he was steady around 17 fps. He seems relatively safe at this price and in this matchup. If you decide to use him cash games are your best option.

Patrick Beverley $4,900 – Beverley is in a good spot tonight against a poor defensive team. He will be low owned and should be able to get you 5x. My only worry is if the game will be a blowout because as a Pistons fan I know they suck. But, they also tend to show up in games where everyone counts them out so I say he’s worth a shot.

Patty Mills $4,100 – With everyone and their brother practically announced out for the spurs ( except Tony Parker ). Mills comes in as a gpp play because he will be one of the only play makers for them. Even if Parker plays I doubt it’ll be much, so plugging in Mills could lead to some easy points.

Tyler Ennis $3,800 – Ennis has been lighting it up for the Lakers the last couple of games. Especially in his last game where he played 39 minutes last game and scored a career high 19 pts and recorded 31 fps. He has a favorable matchup with whoever the Kings decide to play and the minutes should be there. Ennis will be low owned as the situation is a little unpredictable, but this makes for an ideal gpp play.
