Value Vault: MLB 4/1/17

MLB IS BACK BABY! It honestly feels so great to be writing those words. The Value Vault for MLB will be pretty much the same thing as NBA. Here I will cover value play’s that are in good spots due to recent play, matchups and salary. Let’s jump into the 3 game slate. Games on for the day are NYY @ TAM, SFG @ ARI and CHC @ STL.

Jacoby Ellsbury $2,900 YANKEES OF – Ellsbury is my favorite value play of the opening day simply because he destroys Tampa bay’s starting pitcher Chris Archer. Career stats against Archer include 19/34 for 2 HR’s, 5 RBI’s and 4 BB’s. It’s safe to say Ellsbury sees the ball well when facing Archer. Expect Ellsbury to be hitting somewhere in the top of the order for the Yanks where he will produce some runs.

Hunter Pence $2,500 GIANTS OF – Expect Pence to be batting in the 4 hole in a great hitters park. Pence hits righties much better and gets (R) Zach Grienke  who didn’t have his best stuff last year. This game has the highest O/U on the day at 8 runs and at $2,500 Pence should be able to connect to drive some runs in for the Giants. Also expect low ownership if you do roster Pence.

Brandon Crawford $2,400 GIANTS SS– Crawford basically comes in as a punt play from the SS position. He will be in a great spot with a favorable ball park and although he doesn’t have the best career numbers against Grienke .172 avg with 9 K’s. We believe that since he had a good spring and WBC his numbers will translate over to this opening game.

Corey Dickerson $2,800 RAYS OF– Dickerson proved that he had some great power last year with the Rays when he hit for 24 HR’s ( 22 of those off righties). He had a good SLG .469 and ISO .224 last year. He will get (R) Tanaka who had a good spring, but career wise Dickerson is 5/14 with a homer off of him. If Tanaka is on can be lethal, but if he makes a mistake my bet will be it’s against Dickerson and he’ll make him pay.
