Coach’s Goal Keep of the Night: March 31st, 2017

TGIF NHL DFS’rs,

I am excited to be writing this article this week on FanForecast. I appreciate the opportunity that Joe Metz has giving me and I am excited about his NBA Starting 5 article being available tonight on ForwardMile. I am glad to be bringing this to a new audience and hope that you can benefit from it like our daily readers have been every Monday-Friday. Seeing as some of you may be new, I will give you a quick rundown of what you get in 500-800 words a week in this article. First, I recap yesterday’s #GoalKeepoftheNight and go over the slate that was. Then, I’ll give you some basic information on the slate, such as: Total number of games, Vegas totals, and general feelings towards the slate. Next, I’ll tell you which goaltender’s not to play before we get into the night’s #GoalKeepoftheNight. If you are new to the article, I hope you enjoy it.

So let’s talk about last night. I want to know what the majority of DFS players were doing last night? I was able to get players that were on top of my player pool, virtually un-owned in cash. For example I got Jeff Skinner at 0.7%, Vincent Flippula at 0.5%, and Jakob Silfverberg at 5.8%. How and why did this happen? Flippula I understand was sneakier than others but not Skinner who is hotter than hot, playing against a backup goaltender and Silfverberg who was moved to the top line due to the injury of Ryan Getzlaf. Because of this, I reaped the benefits last night.

Our #GoalKeepoftheNight last night was good ‘ole Tuukka Rask (a GoalKeep regular) and he was magnificent. Stopping 27 shots and getting us a shutout victory. Again, What was DFS NHL nation thinking last night? If you played Rask, you got him at nearly 4% owned. Mind equals blown. 41.6 FDP and that little pointer in green territory, thank you very much.

#GoalKeepoftheNight Average Score  25.4 FDP (29 Slates)

Tonight, we have ourselves a nice 7-game slate. Interestingly enough the last time the Washington Captials and St. Louis Blues played, Washington played Colorado and St. Louis played Arizona. Tonight they are swapping opponents as St. Louis plays Colorado and Washington squares off with Arizona. Just like that slate we will need exposure to those games tonight.

On this fabulous Friday, we will want to avoid goaltenders in the Pittsburgh-New York and Columbus-Chicago games. Both games have playoff implications and I believe that New York will win tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are only 6 points behind Pittsburgh in the Metropolitan Division and these two teams do square up one more time before the season is over. Pittsburgh is still banged up as there has been no indication that Stars Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang will return tonight. As I have talked about in the past Pittsburgh’s defense is suspect and they are on a 4-game losing streak. They have had to shuffle up their lines and they are quite simply not firing on all cylinders right now. I do think they find ways to get pucks in the net and I suspect both teams to score multiple times. The game at the United Center just smells like it is going to be high paced, high action, and a high scoring game. As we know both teams can score at will and I suspect they will both have no issues lighting the lamp. Not one of the four goaltenders in these contests will make their way into my lineups tonight.

Allen Winter ClassicWe are going to go right back to the well and will try to tame “the snake” for tonight’s #GoalKeepoftheNight. St Louis takes on a miserable Avalanche squad who is the worst team in the NHL. When we lock in Jake Allen tonight, we know we are automatically getting 12 bonus points because there is no way St. Louis loses this game. Not to mention, Colorado actually plays worse at home and this game is in Denver. Do not read into playing in altitude, this does not really translate to anything in the NHL game. The Blues have something to play for tonight as if they win they will clinch a spot in the NHL Playoffs. Expect the physical blues to make Colorado fans leave their seats and head for home early in this one.

Jake Allen is tonight’s  #GoalKeepoftheNight
