NHL DFS Player Pool 12/31

Hey all you DFS players, have you been wanting to learn all about the fastest growing DFS sport? Well, look no further. This article can help anybody who plays DFS. On select Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’, I, Armaan Kaler (@DFSManu) will be providing the best NHL plays of the night in a pool format. This pool of players will include my locks of the night, elite plays (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G), best value picks (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G), and top fades. We will be using FanDuel pricing as reference. Now that we got all of that out of the way, I think we should get into the picks.

Locks of the night:

Johnny Gaudreau W, $7,600 – Johnny Hockey has been great this season (when healthy). He has 11+ FD points in 11 of his last 15 games and hasn’t had a score of under 4.8 during the same span. Gaudreau also skates on the Flames top line and top power play unit, seeing plenty of minutes to pay off his big salary. Go ahead and lock Johnny into your lineups tonight, as he should see tons of scoring chances in this lopsided matchup on home- ice.

Jason Spezza W, $6,600 – the Dallas Stars, who are just great on home- ice, look to have gotten things on track lately. They have won 3 in a row, whilst scoring 3 or more goals in each of those contests. In turn, Spezza has also turned things around, registering 12+ FD points in 4 straight. Getting cheap exposure to one of the top scoring lines in hockey is always a must for me, especially at home.

Plays:

Connor McDavid C, $8,700 – the Edmonton Oilers are the biggest money line favourites tonight, and rightfully so. McDavid and company welcome the tired Vancouver Canucks into town, with the latter having just played last night in a long OT win. The Canucks, who rank near the bottom of the league in penalty kill percentage, have been playing better recently, winning their last two games. On the other hand, McDavid, who just loves playing on HNIC, has been slumping lately. Given that, I think tonight is the night the kid gets ‘Back on Road’, as Gucci Mane says. Go ahead and plug him into your lineups with confidence.

Also: Evgeni Malkin C ($8,700), Tyler Seguin C ($8,700)

Value: Tyler Johnson C ($5,300), Sam Bennett C ($4,800), Nic Petan C, ($3,700)

Nikita Kucherov W, $7,600 – Sidney Crosby (42), Connor McDavid (42), and Evgeni Malkin (41) – these are the NHL’s leaders in points at the end of December. And then there’s Kucherov, at 33. The big difference between those players and Kucherov are just one thing – the Russian playmaker missed 6 key games in the month of December. If not for those 6 games he missed, he would be right up there with them fighting for his right to win the Art Ross. Fortunately for us, there is one positive to him being out for that long.. His price tag is l0w. Also factoring in that he is going up against a backup goalie who has been very bad this season, in Eddie Lack (3.78 GAA), Kucherov makes for a very solid play on this 8 game slate.

Also: Patrik Laine W, ($7,400), Chris Kreider W ($6,600), Jamie Benn ($8,400)

Value: Alex Chiasson W, ($3,500), Ondrej Palat W, ($5,300)

Victor Hedman D, $6,900 – if you’re paying up for a defenseman tonight, please let it be Hedman. Averaging 24 minutes of ice time this season, the Swede, who still manages to quarterback the first PowerPlay unit, makes for one of the safer options from the blue line tonight. Hedman also has 11+ FD points in 7 of his last 8 games. Thus, given his ability to both block shots and create offense (while standing at a staggering 6’6″), makes him a very intriguing option tonight.

Value: Jeff Petry D ($5,000), Matt Benning D ($3,200)

Henrik Lundqvist G, ($9,300) – the New York Rangers are heavy Vegas favourites to win in this one, and rightfully so. The Avalanche, aka the worst team in hockey, come up against the high- powered offense of the Rangers, which can’t and won’t be stopped again tonight. Lundqvist is a lock for the win so go ahead and roll him out with confidence. Good luck, Colorado! (You’re gonna need it)

Also: Cam Talbot G, $8,800

Value: Chad Johnson G, $8,300/ Brian Elliot G, $7,700

Top Fades:

  • Brent Burns D, $8,300
  • Jeff Skinner W, $6,900
