NHL DFS Player Pool 12/29

Hey all you DFS players, have you been wanting to learn all about the fastest growing DFS sport? Well, look no further. This article can help anybody who plays DFS. On select Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’, I, Armaan Kaler (@DFSManu) will be providing the best NHL plays of the night in a pool format. This pool of players will include my locks of the night, elite plays (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G), best value picks (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G), and top fades. We will be using FanDuel pricing as reference. Now that we got all of that out of the way, I think we should get into the picks.

Locks of the night:

Jason Spezza C, $6,400 – the Dallas Stars are in arguably one of the best spots tonight, going up against one of, if not THE worst defense in the league, in the Colorado Avalanche. The ex- Senator has been doing great recently, registering a point in 3 straight games.  Spezza, who also skates on the Stars high- powered first line and first power-play unit, should see enough opportunities tonight to extend his point streak to 4 games, making him a must- play in all formats, especially given his low price- point.

Chris Kreider W, $6,500 – again, like the Stars, the Rangers are another  high- scoring team who are in a great spot tonight, going up against the Arizona Coyotes. Kreider, who has points in 13+ FD points in 3 of his last 4, plays on the Rangers top line that can light up the scoresheet on any given night. Although the Coyotes have not been horrible at home this season, they are still a very bad defensive team who give up a ton of scoring chances to their opponents. I see the Rangers lighting the lamp multiple times tonight, with at least one coming from Kreider.

Elite Plays:

Tyler Seguin C, $8,400 – Seguin is just a straight – up stud. Skating alongside Jamie Benn and Spezza on the top line (and top power- play), Seguin should see a vast amount of chances to get on the board tonight, as the Avalanche come in to this one sporting one of the league’s worst GAA (goals against average) in the month of December.

Also: Connor Mcdavid C, ($8,700), Auston Matthews ($7,200),  Derek Stepan C, ($6,600)

Zach Parise W, $7,000 – Washington on home ice against the New Jersey freakin’ Devils (who are also starting a backup goalie)? Yeah, give me Ovechkin in this one.

Also: Zach Parise, ($7,000), Patrik Laine W, ($7,400), Jamie Benn W, ($7,400)

Erik Karlsson D, $7,600 – Now, before I get into this pick, I just want to let you people know that tonight is not a good night to pay up for a defender when there’s certainly lots of value there tonight. However, if you do want to pay up for a Defenseman, Karlsson is your safest option tonight. Erik, who has 11+ FD points in 5 of his last 6 games, makes for an elite play tonight in a prime matchup on home ice against an overrated Detroit Red Wings team. Detroit, who are just atrocious all around, have been playing horrible hockey lately, allowing 3+ goals in 4 straight contests. This opens up the door for Karlsson, who is playing upwards of 25 minutes/ game this season. Oh, and he has blocked the most shots this season out of ANY player.

Also: Zach Werenski D, ($5,400)

Devyn Dubnyk G, $9,700 – Now, I know Dubnyk isn’t cheap, but just hear me out. The net minder has been playing his brains out recently, helping the Wild win 11 straight games, while sporting a .947 sv% across that span. The Wild are also one of, if not the best team this season on home- ice this season, having a 12-3 record in Minnesota.

Also: Braden Holtby ($9,300)

Value Picks:

Tyler Johnson C, $5,300 – It’s difficult to understand why Johnson is priced so cheap. He centers the Lightning top line and top power play, with Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palat to his side. Tampa Bay, who are on the back to back, are up against a Toronto team that also played just yesterday. If Toronto starts Anthony Bibeau in net, Johnson becomes a very intriguing option at his price tag as I can see Tampa Bay Light(n)ing it up at home.

Also: Eric Staal C, $6,200

Alex Chiasson W, $3,500 – skating on the Flames top line and top power play, alongside the likes of Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett, Chiasson makes for a great bargain play on home ice against a Ducks team who have been sub- par in the month of December, allowing an average of 2.6 Goals Per Game. Although the line is probably going to be matched up against a great defensive centre in Ryan Kesler, they should see a good amount of chances in this one, where the O/U is 5.5.

Also: Zach Hyman W $4,200, & Connor Brown W $3,700, Justin Williams W, $5,000

Dion Phaneuf D, $4,700 – Phaneuf, who plays on the Senators first power play unit (with Erik Karlsson), is a very interesting option tonight as the Senators play the Red Wings on home ice. Phaneuf, who is basically an older, slower version of Erik Karlsson, has registered 8+ FD points in his last 4 games. He also sees upwards of 23 minutes/ game this season, second only to (you guessed it) Karlsson in TOI/ game this season.

Also: Jeff Petry D, $4,900

Kari Lehtonen – never would I would any Dallas Stars goalie in my lineup, but in case any of you needed some salary relief in goal, here you go. Dallas are a big Vegas favourite tonight, and rightfully so. Lehtonen is going up against a Colorado team that struggles to score goals on any given night, so it should not be a tough task to get the all- important 12 points (win) tonight.

Top Fades:

– Artemi Panarin, Patrick Kane (CHI)

– James Neal (NSH)

– David Pastrnak (BOS)

– Alexsander Barkov (FLA)

Good Luck everyone!
