NHL DFS Player Pool – 12/22

Hey all you DFS players, have you been wanting to learn all about the fastest growing DFS sport? Well, look no further. This article can help anybody who plays DFS. On select Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Saturday’s, I, Armaan Kaler (@DFSManu) will providing the best NHL plays of the night in a pool format. This pool of players will include my locks of the night, elite plays (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G), and top value picks (1C, 1W, 1D, and 1G). We will be using FanDuel pricing as reference. Now that we got all of that out of the way, I think we should get into the picks.

Locks of the night:

Auston Matthews C, $6,800 – going up against one of the worst defenses in the NHL, Matthews is a must-play tonight, especially with his ability to provide a safe floor with the amount of shots he takes. He is also still way under-priced.
Justin Schultz D, $4,800 – Pittsburgh has had a very unlucky season with injuries, with Kris Letang and Trevor Daley both out indefinitely. Fortunately, that has opened up a big opportunity for Schultz. Like Matthews, Justin is very under priced. He is getting upwards of 20 minutes of ice time a game and also plays alongside Crosby and Malkin on the Penguins lethal top power-play unit. Although not in the best matchup, Schultz should be a lock for anyone looking for a safe floor in cash games.

Elite Plays:

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin C, $9,100 & $8,500 – both of these guys are just straight up studs. Going up against Columbus away from home, these guys are most definitely not in the best match up. But, they do shoot the puck a ton and see a whole bunch of ice time. I think Columbus are due for some regression and I think both of these guys get on the score sheet tonight.

Taylor Hall W, $7,100 – Hall is just too good of a player to not have points in 6 straight games. The speedy winger has been shooting the puck a ton but just can’t seem to find twine, mostly because of bad luck. Given that, I think that tonight is a real get-right spot for the Devils who are at home ice against the Flyers. The Flyers are on the back to back and will be starting their backup goalie tonight, which makes me like Hall even more.

David Pastrnak W, $6,800 – How is this guy priced so cheap?! He has the 2nd most goals (19) in the NHL, and just seems to thrive beside one of the best defensive centers in the league, Patrice Bergeron. Pasta has missed the last 2 games with a minor elbow ailment, but other than that, this guy has been MONEY all year. Going up against one of the worst backups in the league (James Reimer), Pastrnak is a good bet for a goal tonight.

Erik Karlsson D, $7,400 – Karlsson, one of the best defenseman in the league, has just been an animal this season, averaging upwards of 25 minutes/ game. He also has the great ability to block shots (1.6 FD pt/ per block), a stat in which he leads the NHL. Playing against an Anaheim team that has allowed an average of 3 goals/ gm in December, paying up for Karlsson may be a good move tonight.

*FAIR WARNING*- the goalie position is very ugly tonight.
Frederick Andersen G, $9,000 – going up against one of the worst scoring teams in the NHL in Colorado, Andersen is the biggest Vegas favourite of the night, and rightfully so. The Toronto netminder has been great in the last month, not allowing more than 2 goals only twice in his last 11 starts.

Value Picks:

Mike Fisher C, $4,700 – Fisher has been on fire recently, scoring 8+ FanDuel points in 5 of his last 6 games. Playing alongside James Neal and Viktor Arvidsonn on the so called “third line” and top power play, Fisher has high upside tonight with a decently- high floor.

Bobby Ryan W, $4,900 – Ryan has been lighting it up recently, scoring a goal in 4 straight games. Going up against the team that traded him a few years ago, Ryan will no- doubt have extra motivation to score once again. He is my top value play of the night and will be in all of my personal lineups.

Jeff Petry D, $4,700 – Petry, the very offensively gifted defenseman, has been producing lately at a low price. Averaging 11 FD points/ game and playing on the top power play unit with Shea Weber, he has 20+ FD points in 4 of his last 5 games. Although Minnesota is a very good team defensively, I think Petry is worth a shot in some cash and GPP lineups due to his seemingly unlimited upside.

Also: Jannik Hansen W, $4600, Troy Stecher D, $4,700

No Value Goalies.

Good Luck everyone!
