MLB Plays of the Day – April 19th

Last night ended up better than we initially thought it would, with our NBA line cashing and one of our two MLB lines cashing.

To review the plays of the day that were included yesterday, here are the stats and total points that each player featured in the article accumulated:

Noah Syndergaard – 7.0 IP, 8 K, 1 ER, 1 W – 54 FD points

Joey Votto – 1 BB – 3 FD points

Martin Prado – 1 1B, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI – 12 FD points

Michael Conforto – 1 BB – 3 FD points

Christian Yelich – 2 1B, 1 R, 1 RBI – 12 FD points

While Joey Votto and Michael Conforto were massive disappointments, Thor, Prado and Yelich all paid off for those of you who rostered them. Today, we’ve got a nice 13 game MAIN slate that begins at 7:05 and will have a whole lot of options to choose from when building our lineups. The pitcher to roster isn’t quite as clear as it was yesterday, but with these 5 plays of the day, there will be a good chance that you will cash tonight.

Here are your 5 Fanduel MLB Plays of the Day:

Francisco Liriano – SP | PIT ($9,500)

Liriano was an absolute stud for us when we played him on Opening Day when he dropped a 60 bomb for us on Fanduel and we’re turning back to him today. In his two starts so far this season, Liriano has pitched 11 innings while striking out 13 and allowing 8 hits, 9 walks and an ERA of 2.45. Luckily on Fanduel you are not penalized when your pitcher walks a batter, because Liriano is one of the league leaders in that category. He does, however, get a load of strikeouts and has a HR/9 rate of 0.8. He heads to Petco Park, one of the most pitcher-friendly ballparks in the league, to take on one of the worst offenses in the league. The Padres come in with a team batting average of .226 and a team OBP of .302. While Liriano is likely to walk his fair share of batters, it can almost be entirely ruled out that he will surrender the long-ball tonight and with one of the most potent offenses in the league backing him up, he should be in line for a W tonight.

Other Options – Stephen Strasburg, Marcus Stroman, Yordano Ventura

Adrian Gonzalez – 1B | LAD ($3,200)

Stack Dodgers lefties today and start with Adrian Gonzalez. On the season, Gonzalez is batting .314 with an .808 on-base plus slugging percentage with one home run and 8 RBIs and has a very good chance to pad those stats tonight. The Dodgers take on Julio Teheran and the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field tonight. In his career, Gonzalez has had 14 plate appearances, batting .333 (4-12) with 1 double, 1 home run, 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored and 2 walks with an on-base percentage of .429. Teheran on the other hand hasn’t been all that impressive this season. He comes into tonight’s contest with a 6.35 ERA in 17 innings while allowing 17 hits, 12 earned runs and 4 home runs. Lefties are batting .308 against him with a .424 on-base percentage this season, showing his continued struggle against lefties that’s plagued him in recent years. Gonzalez demonstrates extreme patience at the plate and comes in with a very enticing matchup while sitting at only $3,200 on Fanduel tonight. Lock him in.

Other Options – David Ortiz, Joey Votto, Prince Fielder

Carlos Correa – SS | HOU ($4,200)

Along with stacking lefties in the Dodgers’ lineup tonight, I strongly recommend rostering one of the two middle-infielders on the Astros, and I personally think Carlos Correa will have a big game. After a scorching start to the season, Correa has struggled recently, going 1-14 over his last 4 games and sat out in the series finale against the Tigers on Sunday. He is still batting .267 with a .340 on-base percentage over 50 plate appearances this year and draws the perfect matchup against Derek Holland and the Rangers tonight. He’s only had 6 plate appearances against Holland in his short career, but Correa has gone 4-5 with a double, 2 home runs, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored and a walk in those 6 plate appearances. It’s safe to say he’s had early success against Holland and given how hard he seems to hit the ball against him, we view him as a must play tonight.

Other Options – Corey Seager, Trevor Story, Marcus Semien

Giancarlo Stanton – OF | MIA ($4,600)

Giancarlo Stanton

I’ve said it before when I used to write for FTA, but Giancarlo Stanton is my favorite player in the MLB. I don’t think there’s anyone that hits the ball harder than he does…maybe Bryce Harper, but it’s close. Stanton came alive last game going 2-3 with a home run, 2 RBIs, a walk and 2 runs scored against the Nationals. While Stephen Strasburg seems like a daunting matchup and may make you think about fading Stanton, take a look at their history first. In 37 career plate appearances against Strasburg, Stanton has batted .406 with an on-base percentage of .486 to go along with 6 doubles, 3 home runs, 9 runs scored, 10 RBIs and 5 walks. He’s clearly had success against Washington’s ace and coming in as the primary source of offense for the Marlins, expect Stanton to look to continue his string of success tonight.

Joc Pederson – OF | LAD ($2,800)

Joc Pederson finds himself in this article because I am high on stacking the lefties in the Dodgers’ lineup like I said. I have already talked about how bad Teheran has been against lefties, which only strengthens my argument. Pederson had a sluggish second half last season and finished the season batting .210, but his 2016 has been a bit brighter. He’s currently batting .257 on the season with a .316 on-base percentage with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs over 38 plate appearances. He is still struggling with strikeouts, but with a matchup as enticing as Teheran, he’s too hard to pass up for $2,800. Teheran has allowed 4 home runs in two starts, an area where Pederson is known to thrive as he swings for the fences regardless of the count. Hitting in one of the most potent offenses in the league only strengthens the desire to play him, as he clocks in as potentially one of the best bargain plays tonight.

Other Options – Marcell Ozuna, George Springer, Dexter Fowler
